Cipro is part of a category of drugs known as fluoroquinolones. It is an antibiotic used to fights bacteria in the body. It acts by hindering the production of certainl proteins the bacteria needs to survive. Cipro is commonly used in the treatment of different types of bacterial infections as well as in the prevention or slow anthrax after exposure.
Cipro is to be taken exactly as it was prescribed by your doctor. It is not recommended to larger doses of Cipro or to take it for a longer than prescribed by your doctor for no reason whatsoever. Use the directions on your prescription label as reference if you forgot the exact dosage. Cipro should be taken with a full glass of water. It is also recommended to drink several extra glasses of fluid everyday during your treatment.
Cipro, like other drugs, may have several side effects. Contact your doctor and get immediate medical assistance if you suffer from the following side effects: swelling or tearing of a tendon; frequent pain or discomfort, mild to the abdomen or stomach pain; vaginal flow; stunning; insomnia; mild diarrhea; headache; nausea or vomiting; nervousness; drowsiness; dizziness; sudden pain; swelling; tenderness; stiffness; or movement problems in the joints. Patients that are more likely to suffer from these side effects are people that are over 60 years old, that are taking oral steroid medication, recently had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant.
It is contraindicated to take Cipro with any form of dairy products, such as milk and yogurt or with calcium-fortified juice as the reduce the drug’s effectiveness. Do not stop taking this drug earlier than indicated by your doctor even if you start feeling better as the symptoms may disappear or get before you are completely healed.
